XpressBet Beat the Host Championship
Where: XpressBet.com
When: Saturday, March 13
How Much: No entry fee; $40 live bankroll
Field: Limit one entry per person; open only to account holders at XpressBet.com, DelMarBets.com and OakTreeBets.com.
Format: Contestants in the weekly preliminary contests every Saturday in January and February make eight live $5 win wagers. Players keep all winnings, but payoffs are capped at 20-1 ($105 contest points) for scoring purposes. Those beating the designated "host" each week automatically earn a berth in the March 13 finals. Weekly prizes are $1,000 to the winner and $500 to the runner-up. There is no limit to the number of weekly prizes someone can win, but they can only earn one berth in the March 13 finals. If a single person beats the host in all nine preliminary contests, they earn a berth to NHC XII; if there are multiple people who pull off the feat, they split $5,000; if no one beats the host in all eight, then an aggregate $2,000 prize will be awarded to the person(s) who last the longest. In the March 13 finals, the top five finishers earn berths in NHC XII at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas on Jan. 28-29, 2011, along with hotel accommodations during the finals plus $500 for airfare. The next two finishers will earn seats in the 2011 Coast Casinos' Horseplayer World Series at the Orleans in Las Vegas.
