DAILY RACING FORM DONS SECRETARIAT’S ICONIC BLUE AND WHITE COLORS IN CELEBRATION OF THE UPCOMING MOTION PICTURE “SECRETARIAT”—IN THEATERS OCT. 8, 2010
First Time Ever a Thoroughbred’s Racing Silks Adorn Masthead in 116-Year-History
NEW YORK, N.Y. (October 1, 2010) — Daily Racing Form, the most iconic brand in thoroughbred racing, will merge with the historic Meadow Stable blue and white silks that adorned Secretariat as he captured the Triple Crown in 1973, in celebration of the upcoming Disney film “Secretariat.” “Secretariat” opens in theatres nationwide on Friday, October 8, 2010.
Daily Racing Form's red signature logo has dominated the front cover of its daily newspaper since 1894. In its 116-year history, no thoroughbred’s racing silks have ever adorned the top of the masthead until now.
“Racing's rich heritage and pageantry is something we celebrate everyday at Daily Racing Form,” said John Hartig, CEO of Daily Racing Form and Sports Information Group. “There is no grander way to honor Secretariat's contribution to the sport than with this special presentation.
“Secretariat and his magical story drew countless fans to thoroughbred racing back in 1973; in fact, he captivated the entire country,” continued Hartig. “We believe this inspirational story, as masterfully told by Disney, will introduce yet a new generation of fans to the greatness of this wonderful sport.”
Daily Racing Form is also collaborating with Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Secretariat.com, and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association on numerous special projects to enhance the release of “Secretariat.”
Daily Racing Form’s reader promotion “Win a Trip to the Secretariat Movie Premiere” awards two lucky winners with an all-expense paid trip to Hollywood to walk the red carpet. DRF will also publish a special commemorative “Secretariat” movie edition to be distributed at the Hollywood, Calif. and Lexington, Ky. premieres.
DRF, Secretariat.com and the NTRA will co-publish a custom commemorative magazine dedicated to the story of Secretariat’s spectacular career. It will be on sale at DRF.com and Secretariat.com beginning October 8 to coincide with the movie opening.
ABOUT THE MOVIE
Based on the remarkable true story, “Secretariat” chronicles the spectacular journey of the 1973 Triple Crown winner. Housewife and mother Penny Chenery (Diane Lane) agrees to take over her ailing father’s Virginia-based Meadow Stables, despite her lack of horse-racing knowledge. Against all odds, Chenery - with the help of veteran trainer Lucien Laurin (John Malkovich) - manages to navigate the male-dominated business, ultimately fostering the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years and what may be the greatest racehorse of all time. Directed by Randall Wallace from a screenplay written by Mike Rich.
